After working as a nurse for over 30 years I have found that my passion is helping people in their homes as a visiting nurse. My nursing background is extensive: my experience includes working in university hospital intensive care units and emergency rooms, rural health clinics, supervising at nursing homes, and providing occupational health at large corporations. Ten years ago while working as a visiting nurse it became vivid to me that health begins at the home, that with the attentive care of a nurse most people can stay strong and stay out of the hospital, and that many people in my own community could greatly benefit from home care.
I believe that there is a lot more to health and well being then what the typical doctor or nurse will provide. While I certainly provide basic health care services such as wound care, checking blood pressure and blood sugar levels, and giving injections, I can also help you improve your health and happiness in many other ways. I can take you to your appointments and help you communicate with your doctor, check your medications to be sure that prescriptions written by different doctors are not a bad combination, provide massage therapy for relaxation or pain management, or lead you in stretching and exercises that will help you stay limber and active.
I believe that cleanliness and order lead to health of body and spirit, so I can help you clean, get organized, remove hazards, deal with paperwork, or fix things around the house or yard. I can also assist you with Medicare or other insurance claims; I'll get on the phone for you and tell them what's what.
I can also help with shopping and preparing meals. This will not only make things easier for you but will let me review your nutritional needs and check that there are no potential bad interactions between the drugs you take and what you eat and drink.
And one of the best and most important parts of being a visiting nurse is being there for you as a companion, listening to your concerns, enjoying a laugh and sharing a memory.
